About This Practice
When you do so much for the ones you love day after day, you may find yourself in a rut. You may forget your own generosity and compassion. And, oftentimes you may start to forget how much you are really appreciated. In this practice, you’ll practice getting out of a rut by doing a few random acts of kindness. Moreover, this practice is one way of remembering your compassionate agency by making a conscious choice to help someone new.
Steps
Spot the moments
As you go about your day, notice other people and small tiny moments where they need help. This could be as small as opening a door for someone or gathering a small amount for charity. Don't engage yet...simply notice them.
Decide where to act
Notice again when people need help today. This time, decide consciously where or if you want to engage. Try to focus on one random act of kindness that is fully your choice. Why did you choose to help?
Direct it inward
Focus on the feeling after your act of kindness. As you breathe in, focus on the compassion you demonstrated and breathe that feeling into your lungs. Remember that you are deeply kind and compassionate and also have agency in how and when you choose to help others.
