About This Practice
Sometimes we spend our time thinking of the worst-case scenario so that we can be prepared when difficult situations arrive. This practice will ask you to trust in your ability to handle challenges as they come and instead of worrying about the worst-case scenario, imagine the best possible outcome.
Steps
Pause and notice
Take a moment to notice what thoughts or worries are occupying your mind. Notice how your body feels when you are flooded with worries.
Select a worry
Choose one worry to bring your attention to.
What is the best that could happen?
Take a moment and imagine the best thing that could happen in regards to this worry you've selected. Try to imagine as much detail about the best case scenario as possible. You might even narrate what happens. Allow yourself to be fully immersed in this best case scenario.
Reflect
Check in with your body and notice how it feels after imagining the best case scenario. If you find yourself ruminating on worries about the future, see if you can ask yourself, "What is the best thing that could happen" instead.
