Find joy and delight in every moment

About This Practice

It's easy to get lost in doing things for your loved one rather than being present with your loved one; this can lead to guilt and regret. Savoring is about finding delight and joy in each moment. In this practice, you will build capacity to appreciate and relish moments with your loved one without forcing it, so that you can experience yourself and your loved one in a whole new way.

Steps

1

Sense the moments

Notice the sensations in your body during the next three to five interactions with your loved one. Don’t stop the sensation, try to be in it as much as you can. Once you are done, label the sensations. Do they feel heavy or light?

2

Savor the moments

Next, notice the sensations in your body during the same or similar interactions with your loved one. In each moment, identify something that you can savor in the moment. Perhaps it’s your loved one's eyes, or a gentle breeze outside, or a song playing in the background. Once you are done, write down the things you savored.

3

Stay in the moments

One more time, notice the sensations in your body during the same or similar interactions with your loved one. In each moment, identify again something you can savor. Savor that thing for 30 seconds to a minute, trying to absorb and sense as much as you can with your whole body. Once you are done, notice how the quality of your experience with your loved one has shifted.
